For all newcomers over the age of 18, and any over 14 years who've struggled with addiction, or for those Nicavangelists who need to be significantly challenged after taking a few steps backwards, we send them to the wonderful people at Teen Challenge in Honduras.
Teen Challenge Honduras uses a brilliant curriculum and community of supportive, mature men in their addiction recovery program. They offer practical, appropriate, and life-changing courses that facilitate the transition from alcoholism and substance abuse to a life of freedom. At Teen Challenge Honduras, they offer The Nicavangelists troupe members a chance to start over, become a new person, live a healthy life, and find freedom and a bright future through a restored purpose and an eternal hope. Teen Challenge Honduras achieves this through classes, individual study, personal mentoring, work ethics training, and involvement in the community. The Nicavangelists are EXCITED about the Teen Challenge Honduras program! For Nicavangelist troupe members who make a decision to lead younger Nicaraguans, we have them complete Discipleship Training (DTS) and Bible Schools with YWAM (Youth With A Mission). Our students participate in a lecture phase of up to 3 months in a foreign country and in most instances complete an outreach too, where they can put into practice what they learn.
YWAM (Youth With A Mission) is a global movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to presenting Jesus personally to this generation, to mobilizing as many as possible to help in this task, and to the training and equipping of believers for their part in fulfilling the Great Commission. As citizens of God’s kingdom, we are called to love, worship, and obey our Lord, to love and serve His Body, the Church, and to present the whole gospel for the whole person throughout the whole world. We of YWAM believe that the Bible is God’s inspired and authoritative word, revealing that Jesus Christ is God’s son; that people are created in God’s image; that He created us to have eternal life through Jesus Christ; that although all people have sinned and come short of God’s glory, God has made salvation possible through the death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ; that repentance, faith, love and obedience are fitting responses to God’s initiative of grace towards us; that God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth; and that the Holy Spirit’s power is demonstrated in and through us for the accomplishment of Christ’s last commandment, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation” (Mark 16:15).
The Nicavangelists have been on outreach with YWAM in the USA and Central America. We believe in the power of purposeful young people working together for the cause of the Gospel. There are 3 phases for the acceptance of Nica Street-Kids into the Nicavangelists troupe:
1. Nica-Kidz Street Tricking School: This school is run by Nicavangelists offsite who take on youngsters through a mentorship/training program. Kids become a part of “the family” by attending Tricking practice sessions in a lot rented by The Nicavangelists. After practices, and whenever needed, the street-kids have access to their “big buddies” and this program is effective because of the relationships which form. We need your support to pay for the lot, equipment, uniforms, for the nutricious food and drinks we provide, and for the stipend we pay the BIG buddies;
2. The Nicavangelitos Day-Camp: Run every June/July & December/January, The Nicavangelitos Day-Camp is a miniature version of The Nicavangelists’ program. There are Tricking (Gymnastics combined with Martial Arts) and Bboy (Breakdance) practice sessions, Bible devotions, times of prayer, food, play, time in the pool, etc. From here we are better able to assess the compatibility of our campers with The Nicavangelists’ mission. At the end of each camp there is either a Tricking Competition or Bboy Battle. Our goal here is to merely see whether or not a camper can engage an audience and whether they have improved;
3. The Interview and acceptance: Of the campers selected to progress forward, they are then asked to have an interview with The Nicavangelists’ National Leadership Team. We want to know that they are stupid, crazy and strong (The Alpha-male types, although challenging, are generally best suited to the rough and tumble of outreach tours). We do not want kids who desire to live and work in Miami. We desire to envision together a bright future.

Once a Nica street-kid has been accepted into The Nicavangelists program they are expected to attend camps and do additional training (Practice Bboy (breakdance) & Tricking (Gymnastics combined with Martial Arts), Learn choreography, complete daily Bible readings, lead devotions, etc). On their first two tours with The Nicavangelists troupe they are expected to learn about “life with The Nicavangelists” and as they experience English language immersion for the first time we don’t require them to undertake formal study. From their second year touring they are home-schooled with off-the-shelf curriculum that we purchase in the USA. From the third grade they are enrolled in an online school in Iowa, Ignitia (Alpha & Omega). To partner with The Nicavangelists’ education program on a once off or monthly basis, please click on the campaign below.
In addition to The Nicavangelist troupe members, we also support other training in the wider community for youth not affiliated with our programs. These youths are assessed on a case-by-case basis and they may receive partnership support for university or vocational training. In most instances in our target barrios, Nica-Kids leave school at too young an age and enter the workforce before they are ready. With an absence of discipleship and constructive activities, the kids turn to sexual promiscuity, drugs, alcohol (and substitutes) and crime. In getting up to no good, these kids hope to carve out a personal identity, kill the boredom which oppresses them and assist themselves and their families out of chronic poverty. Of course, the desired outcome isn’t what actually transpires. Sexual promiscuity leads to teenage parenthood. Drugs lead to addiction and poverty. Crime results in incarceration. The kids’ mischief affects the community by adding another to the downward spiral, entrapping and enslaving these beautiful people.
Well each year The Nicavangelists increase their efforts to pour out the love of God all over broken and needy communities in the world’s poorest Spanish speaking country. At Christmas time The Nicavangelists give out thousands of bicycles, toys, food hampers and other household objects, just to LOVE & BLESS mums and kids who might otherwise not know that they too can have a bright future. The Nicavangelists take these wonderful people on fun outings to the cinema and to the beach, etc. To partner with this terrific program focussed on loving those most in need, please click on the campaign on the left.
